In 2022, it was estimated there were 82,384 horses, and that same year 20,193 were removed. If all of the round-ups take place in 2023, well over 10,000 will be removed, leaving only about 50,000 horses still roaming free. Should the round-ups continue at this pace, in about four years all wild horses and burros will be removed from their homes.
